Celebrating 50 years of Steven Spurrier’s Academie Du Vin
 
To mark 50 years of Académie du Vin, the legendary wine school founded in Paris in 1973 by the late Steven Spurrier, this rare Blanc de Blancs 2018 Magnum from Bride Valley Vineyard was released as a tribute to one of the most influential figures in modern wine.
 
Steven Spurrier was an iconic British wine merchant and educator whose vision changed the wine world. He founded the Académie du Vin in Paris and made history with the 1976 “Judgment of Paris,” a tasting that shocked the wine world and put California wines on the global stage.
 
For those new to Bride Valley: this is an English sparkling estate nestled in Dorset’s chalky hills, founded by Spurrier later in his career. The vineyard has become a benchmark for refined, terroir-driven English sparkling wines, with a focus on Chardonnay-led expressions that rival far more famous regions.
 
The 2018 Blanc de Blancs was considered Spurrier’s signature cuvée. It captures the precision and quiet confidence of the site: lifted citrus, green apple, and stone fruit layered with delicate brioche and a whisper of toast. The palate opens bright and crystalline, then unfurls into a creamy, textured finish carried by fine, citrus-driven acidity.
 
Each magnum is individually numbered and presented in a bespoke anniversary case, complete with the story of the Académie du Vin. It’s as much an object as it is a wine. A collector’s piece that actually delivers in the glass.
 
Only 313 magnums were produced worldwide. 20 have just arrived in Ontario.

Founded in Paris in 1973 by our much-missed father and husband, Steven Spurrier, l’Académie du Vin was one of the world’s very first dedicated wine schools. Its influence on the world of wine has been immeasurable, and Steven always considered it his proudest achievement.
 
Fifty years on, it continues to thrive. To mark this milestone, and a new chapter for Bride Valley, we created this limited-edition boxed magnum, bringing together two of Steven’s most cherished legacies.
 
Each bottle is numbered and presented to honour his remarkable life in wine. From what we believe is the finest vintage yet of our Blanc de Blancs, these magnums represent a small piece of wine history.
